Carrera’s founder, Wilhelm Anger, a sports eyewear designer, invented and patented a material called ‘Optyl,’ a heat-hardened plastic that weighed 20% less than acetate, in 1964. Through a memory effect that offered persistent elasticity and dimensional stability, this invention resulted in a reduction of allergic reactions and enhanced eyewear fit.
